WELCOME TO THE GREAT SMOKY MOUNTAINS!!

The Lollipop Shop of the Smokies is conveniently located at exit 407 (Interstate 40) in the Bass Pro Shops complex and directly across from the Tennessee Smokies baseball complex. This area is the Gateway to the Great Smoky Mountains, the sixth most visited area in the United States and the most visited National Park in the Country. Be sure to make The Lollipop Shop of the Smokies your first stop on your sweet vacation.

If you’re coming to the mountains, you will want to visit the town of Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, with over nine million visitors annually. The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is in the southerrn tip of the Appalachian Mountains and creates a natural border between Tennessee and North Carolina.

Most people don’t realize that the Great Smoky Mountains is the most visited park in the United States. One interesting aspect of the park is an amazing event that happens only once a year for about a week in mid-June and only two locations in the entire world...The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is one of them and the other is Asia.
The event is the Synchronous Fireflies in Elkmont.

The fireflies of Elkmont, Photinus carolinus, accomplish their synchronous flashing in a much different way.  Whereas the Asian fireflies oscillate their flashing in a metronome-like manner – on-off-on-off in a regular sequence, Elkmont’s fireflies flash in a series of about six blinks and then pause for a while before starting again.

Other popular attractions in the area is Ripley’s Aquarium and Dollywood Amusement Park
in Pigeon Forge.
